Book Box Description (Set of two):
Inspired by the Geisha, a female Japanese entertainer whose skills included performing various Japanese arts such as classical music and dance. This book box depicts Geisha as they prepare for ceremony and dance, holding hairbrush and mirror. Notice the beautiful ink line work of the face & hair, the rich color and pattern of the Kimono robes.
This book box features two individual woodblock prints by Hashiguchi Goyo (1880-1921). On the cover we have the blue geisha, “Kamisuki (Woman Combing her Hair)”, and on the back cover, we have the red geisha –“Kessho no Onna (Woman Applying Makeup)”.
